Writer's Workshop
Genevieve has had a piece of writing picked by her teacher to be in a writing contest. We have not seen this piece of writing as it was done at school. After a few minutes of leading questions we determined that only four children from her class were picked to submit writing. Genevieve had no idea that this was an honor.
Sophie has been teaching herself to read for about a year now and is a pretty solid reader. Today I learned that she is also teaching herself to write. While I was cooking breakfast this morning, she told me that she was writing a letter to Grandpa. This isn't an uncommon occurrence but it is usually some scribbling, a few stickers and some rubber stamps. Today I was totally surprised by what she produced.
If you are having trouble with the text it says "Dis is for Grandpa" You might think that her spelling is off but that is how she says it. She doesn't quite discriminate the "th" from the "d" sound just yet. It could be her Brooklyn ancestry.
