Genevieve speaks very well for a 2 year old. She has only the slightest child's lisp but she does get a little confused by the subtleties of pronunciation at times.
As her big sister present we gave her a Dora bath set. Carrie explained what each item was while I was in another room. I overheard her saying that it contained bubble bath, body wash, shampoo and a tray to hold it all. A few minutes later I heard G making making choo-choo noises while sliding the bath set around on the floor. "What are you doing?" "I'm pushing the train." Just to make sure I wasn't the one who was confused I bent down to take a closer look; perhaps the basket containing the soaps was shaped like a train. Nope, no train, just some sound-a-like confusion. "Mommy said it was a tray to hold it in not a train." "Oh!"
Genevieve has been confusing another concept for a while but it wasn't until this weekend that we uncovered the mystery. She had been referring to getting dressed as, "What are you going to put on your naked?" or upon seeing a picture of a strange outfit, "What is she wearing on her naked?" We just assumed that she confused naked with skin. It took a little help from an English professor to help us with this one.
After her bath and sometimes before bed, G will run around in just her diaper. We might say something like "Oooh, you're naked!" Genevieve doesn't have the best grasp of the English language; contractions, particularly of the homonym variety, can be confusing. I just thought she was objectifying naked but apparently it was just your/you're confusion. My friend tells me that her college students sometimes have the same problem.
