Clear and Present Danger

Genevieve loves to draw. Being a true artist, it's not always obvious to the casual observer what it is that Genevieve is drawing. She usually tells me what she is creating so I can "Oh!" and "Ah!" at the proper times. She is very fond of drawing things like cookie monster, triangles, and squirrels.

Yesterday Genevieve was drawing a lot of straight lines with a blue marker. I wasn't sure what she was going for, so I asked her what she was drawing. Her answer: contrails.

Maybe Tom Clancy isn't the best choice for her bedtime stories.

Who you gonna call?

Genevieve likes to play with her cell phone and call various relatives or inanimate objects. Here you can listen to her calling her grandfather and his camel.

Separation Anxiety

Genevieve had a lot of fun in class today. The only problem is most of it was without me. I spent the first 30 minutes or so in the class with Genevieve, but when the class went upstairs I left Genevieve to "go to the bathroom". I remained there for the next 2 hours.
At first I waited in the hallway just in case I needed to rush back into the room and save the day. I heard Genevieve cry and ask for her Mommy. I strongly believe that there is a part of your soul that dies every time you do something for your child that is for their own good. I know 100%, without a doubt, that getting Genevieve used to spending time with someone besides me is the right thing to do. I am also 100% positive that it is cruel and very unfair, especially to me. What was worse than Genevieve crying for me and me doing nothing about it was when she stopped crying and had a blast the rest of the day.
So I spent two hours today in the administrator's office waiting for someone to ask me to comfort a wailing child or for noon, whichever came first. At noon I went to the classroom and found Genevieve waiting for me with her jacket and backpack already on. She told me that she colored with crayons, sang songs, crawled through a tunnel, and, most importantly, ate cookies. She was very happy to see me and was glad that I finally made it back from "the bathroom".
During much of the time that I was waiting I seriously contemplated becoming a nursery school teacher. I won't just miss seeing what Genevieve is doing in class (which I will, A LOT) but I will also miss the other kids, too. It's like watching the most fascinating TV show ever; they have so much energy and passion that it's like a veritable 5-ring circus for 2.5 hours.

Maybe I will suggest that they set up a web-cam in the room, but I think that may be a bad precedent to set.
