Sophie in Action

Sophie is trying very hard to talk. She coos and gurgles a lot more than I remember Genevieve doing. Maybe she just wants to catch up to Big Sister, and not just size-wise.

Georgia on Her Mind

Danny and Genevieve bought a tractor this past weekend. Genevieve enjoys playing the farmer and bringing hay to the cow, dutifully played by her Daddy.

Genevieve is a big fan of farm/construction equipment. She has surprised many a person by shouting out, "Look, Mommy! A backhoe!"

How Big is Sophie?

So Big!!! Sophie loves this game. She laughs and tries to giggle as you stretch her arms out as far as they will go. She's a big girl and proud of it!

The Stats:

Height: 24.75" (of course it's off the chart)
Weight: 14.5 pounds (chart? what chart?)
Head Circumference: 15.5" (70th percentile)

It was a short visit to the pediatrician today since, as he pointed out, Sophie is obviously doing pretty well. She got her first round of vaccinations, screamed, and then went to sleep. She has been sleeping ever since, except to wake up long enough to eat, of course.

In Genevieve news today we had what I will refer to as the Paprika Incident. Paprika, Genevieve's teddy bear in a pink bunny suit, is the love of her life. She treats Paprika as if she gave birth to her: feeding her, soothing her, and tucking her in on top of her chest every night so Paprika can sleep listening to Genevieve's calming heartbeat. Today Genevieve was drinking a large glass of chocolate milk when she somehow lost her grip on the cup and the drink went everywhere. Paprika was sitting in her chair next to Genevieve and got drenched. Nothing that a quick bath in the washing machine couldn't fix except that it was now nap time. All systems shut down at once and Genevieve began screaming uncontrollably and incoherently. To me it sounded like, "NO WASH PAPRIKA NOT DIRTY CHOCOLATE MILK NO SLEEP NOW NO BATH NO NAP TIME NOW NO SLEEP NO PAPRIKA DIRTY NO NO NO!!!" I considered letting Genevieve nap with Paprika anyway but didn't think soaking more things in chocolate milk was the answer. I told Genevieve that Paprika had to have a bath and would be all clean and warm when she woke up from her nap. The screams got louder. I tried yelling my logic at her, hoping the news that she could not sleep with a milk-soaked Paprika would sink in and she would just accept it. You would think I would know by now not to use logic with a two-year-old but I obviously don't. There was nothing I could do but start washing Paprika and drag Genevieve kicking and screaming to her bed for nap time. There was nothing I could say or do to make the situation better and we both knew it. Genevieve finally cried herself to sleep a few minutes ago. Maybe she passed out from tantrum induced exhaustion.

I think it is time to shop for Paprika II and III, wash them a zillion times so that they are indistinguishable, and hide them so Genevieve will hopefully never know.

Picture Update

We've been a little busy adjusting to this whole now-there-is-two-of-them thing, but we have heard the complaints about the lack of pictures. So, here are a few photos to keep you happy until next week when Sophie goes in for her weigh-in.

Danny and Genevieve hiked to a waterfall this past weekend. Genevieve even peed in the woods! No picture of that, though.

Sophie still likes smiling at the camera. As you can see her head is a lot more normal-shaped now.

Bath night

Sophie really likes it when Genevieve helps rub lotion on her after a bath. Sophie is pretty fascinated by Genevieve and vice versa. Hopefully this will continue.

Apples, Goats, and Babies

Genevieve had a very busy weekend. On Friday she went to the hospital to see her newest cousin. She saw her again on Saturday, then went to a farm for a friend's birthday party, and then to her Aunt's house for dinner and destruction. The other kids there helped with the destruction. At least they were demonstrating good cooperation skills. On Sunday we went apple picking and back to the hospital to see her cousin again. Genevieve was very tired on Sunday and would periodically sit down or lie down on the ground during apple picking. She seemed to enjoy it all and was pretty well behaved despite being exhausted.

Sophie tagged along to all of the events but just stuck to the activities that she does best: eating and sleeping. She is sill working on her smile, though.
