Lord, I was born a ramblin' man

Jonah has been getting ready to walk. He can pull himself into a standing position very well and even does a stagger step before dropping into a crawl. He does however love his walking toys. Just point him in a direction and he walks until he hits an obstacle. At that point, he waits until someone turns him around. If you are lucky, he waits patiently; more often than not, this is not the case.

On the unrelated subject of teeth Jonah only has the seven he has had for about six months. We noticed this week that he has two molars coming in. It seems like we switched him to a regular toothbrush at just the right time. I had enough trouble with him chomping down on my finger with seven teeth. I didn't need to dodge two more. I will say he is pretty cute "brushing" his teeth in the morning. He grabs his tooth brush and crawls around on the floor with it. Fortunately he has no ability to actually get it into his mouth or that would be gross.

Genevieve noticed that she has a new tooth coming in. She is losing her first baby tooth and is very excited. At first I was a little concerned because it was coming in behind the other teeth but as the other tooth has loosened it looks like it is just where it needs to be. We've a dentist visit coming up in a few weeks so we'll let him be the judge.

Note: I've been trying to upload this video for about 3 days and it keeps giving an error on preview. If the video doesn't work after a few hours I'll try to upload it again.

Kitty G

Genevieve had her first costume birthday party. I thought she would want to go as Sparkly Ballerina Princess Super Girl but was pleasantly surprised when she said she wanted to be a cat.

I Am One

Jonah had his one year check-up today. He gave the doctor a hard time, trying to pull the stethoscope and other instruments away so he could examine himself. The doctor got him back by giving him three shots and a finger prick.

Height: 31" (90th percentile)
Weight: 23 lbs. (50% percentile)
Head: 25th percentile

Jonah was able to celebrate his birthday with his family down south and here. He's such a deprived child.

Sophie's Dance Class

It was observation day at dance class.
Here is what Carrie observed:
Sophie has some decent dancing abilities that need to be nourished.
Sophie needs to stay focused.

Random Photos

See they can play nicely:

I took Sophie for her first professional haircut. You may recall she got a trim a little earlier.

Here is Genevieve watching TV while she was getting her hair cut. Since she had her head twisted the whole time so that she could see the TV the back ended up on an angle. Next time I'll make sure he rotates the chair so she doesn't have to crane her neck.

September Round-up

Genevieve started first grade this month. She was a little nervous for the first day. Possibly because I told her that her teacher liked to eat children. She must have gotten over that fear because she had a wonderful time and loves her class. Here is a photo of her getting ready to go to class on the first day.

Sophie also started her second year of nursery school; Carrie was a little concerned that she would be upset that she had different teachers. On the first day Carrie walked her to the door and said, "Sophie, this is Mrs. XXXX. Mrs. XXXX this is...." upon looking down to complete the introduction she realized that Sophie was already in the classroom and playing with toys. The teacher looked at Carrie and said, "We won't have any separation problems with this one." A friend of ours who dropped her daughter off a little later said that, when she arrived, half the class was screaming, half were watching screaming kids and Sophie was playing happily with the toys.

I don't have any pictures of Sophie on her first day but here are some pictures of her playing in a box.

On Labor day weekend I took the girls to the Central park zoo. I had never been and didn't quite know what to expect. Now that I've been I can say that I certainly wouldn't plan any trips around it but if I were passing by I wouldn't pass it up.
