Sophie the Teacher

Sophie's teacher has told me many times that whenever the kids have work to do, Sophie will read the instructions and relay them to the class before the last paper has been distributed. She laughs and calls Sophie the teacher some times. A few weeks ago she let Sophie be the teacher and read a story to the class about Emperor Penguins. Both teachers were next to Sophie as she read so that they could help her with words like "blubber" and "Empress". They were astounded when she not only read those words without pause but read the entire book without having to pause and sound out any words. Apparently some of the kids were even surprised and asked Sophie how she knew all of those words. Sophie's teacher told me all about it at pick up and Sophie was very proud, saying that she is going to be the teacher from now on.

Skate-o-Rama

Danny took Genevieve to a skating party two weeks ago. We figured she would be fine since she can ice skate but apparently that wasn't the case. After taking about 10 minutes to make one circuit around the rink she asked if he would put on skates and help her out. He did and she had a good time. Mostly he towed her around the rink. She could balance just fine but wasn't really able to make herself go. By the end of the party she could skate a bit and has been talking about it ever since. We pulled out these old sneaker skates from when Danny was young and she is getting the hang of it. A few more weekends of practice and then we'll tackle the rink again.
